How To Become A Credentialed Veterinary Technician

Inclusion into the profession of Veterinary Technology can be attained by attending one of the 221 American Veterinary Medical Association accredited veterinary technician programs.  Of these, 22 lead to a bachelor’s degree and 8 are distance learning programs.

Most states require successful completion of the Veterinary Technician National Examination.  Many also require passing a State exam, which is specific to each state.

Some of the State exams are jurisprudence exams (content covers the State laws governing Veterinary Medicine), while others may test knowledge and/or technical skills.

The laws governing the practice of veterinary technology vary from state to state.
